Why this exists

A love letter to real-time strategy

Before any of the engineering, there was a kid playing Command & Conquer until the room went dark around him.

Red Alert was the first game I loved hard enough to lose track of time in. Then came Generals, after work, in Amsterdam internet cafés. Plates of food by the keyboards. Someone two chairs away yelling “tank rush, I told you.”

Nobody sold us anything. If you lost, the other player was better that night.

I loved Red Alert. I loved OpenRA and the people who kept it alive. But I wanted a new vibe: real 3D, day turning into night, snow on the treads.

So I rebuilt it (every model, every sound) for a browser tab. You against a friend, or you against the machine, and nothing for sale in between.

RTS is back. Free, and for everyone.

The first thirty seconds of every match

Deploy.

  1. One vehicle.

Every match starts the same way: a single construction vehicle and a patch of ground worth fighting for.

  2. Jacks down.

Settling jacks lower, the chassis levels, the cab locks. An authored deployment sequence, animated from the vehicle into the construction yard.

  3. The walls unfold.

Four wall packs swing out on authored hinges. Over fifteen hundred moving parts, every one animated in Blender.

  4. Construction complete.

The plinth locks and the yard is yours. Now build everything else.

The game

A real RTS.
Not a demake.

Redline Wars runs the Red Alert skirmish rules on OpenRA's deterministic engine, compiled to WebAssembly, and draws every frame with its own WebGPU renderer. It is built as a desktop-first browser RTS: best on a machine with a discrete or Apple-class GPU, with a Turbo 60 mode for high frame rates. Everything you see and hear was made new.

A Redline Wars base in daylight: power plants, a refinery, a radar dome and tanks on snowy ground, with the in-game interface.
The same base at night, lit by street lamps and building lights.
The same base, same camera, both ends of the 24-minute day. Drag across the picture to change the hour.

01 / In command

One broken pact.
Two lines of command.

The peace is over. On either side of the red line, someone has to give the next order.

Allied forces / General Jerome Young

ALLIED COMMAND

Intelligence. Mobility. Precision.

With the pact in ruins, Allied command fights to hold the coalition together. Every route secured and every town defended buys time against Kirkov’s advance.

Rangers scout ahead. Spies open doors. Artillery and naval firepower support the push, while the Chronosphere creates an opening where the enemy least expects it.

Soviet Union / General Sevastyan Dmitrievich Kirkov

KIRKOV

Order. Industry. Overwhelming force.

Kirkov once guarded the frontier the pact was meant to keep peaceful. When that pact collapsed, he saw negotiation as a weakness the Soviet Union could no longer afford.

Now the Allied coalition faces his answer: factories working through the night and armour rolling across the red line. He promises to restore order. The Allies know whose order it would be.

02 / On the frontline

Our honourable
soldiers.

Orders draw the battle lines.
These are the people who cross them.

Riki with long dark hair and charcoal tactical armour, holding a rifle in a ruined city.

01 / Allied commando

RIKI

An elite Allied commando who cuts through infantry and destroys enemy buildings with C4. One Riki. One decisive opening.

Behind enemy lines. Ahead of the order.

Jackson in a green beret and tactical vest, holding his grenade launcher.

02 / Allied grenadier

JACK
SON

Explosive support for the frontline. Jackson’s grenades punish clustered infantry and enemy buildings. Protect him from armour and give him room to work.

Hold your ground. Make every grenade count.
